There's something about walking through an old part of town at night, lantern swinging, while a guide tells you who really haunts the inn on the corner. Ghost walks are one of the best parts of fall.

This year, bring a bingo card along. Our Ghost Walk & Tour card is full of the stories, sounds and spooky moments you'll find on almost any haunted tour. It's available until November 1, so don't wait too long!

How it works

  1. Open the Ghost Walk & Tour card on your phone, or print one for everyone in your group.
  2. Head out on your ghost walk.
  3. Every time you see or hear something on your card, mark it off.
  4. Five in a row is a bingo. Survive the whole tour for a blackout.

Everyone gets their own shuffled card, so your friends will be watching for different things. That's half the fun.

What to look and listen for

From your guide

  • Guide carries a lantern
  • Guide in costume
  • Guide asks "Who believes in ghosts?"
  • A "lady in white" story
  • Hear a local legend

Spooky sights and sounds

  • A cold breeze
  • Creaky door or gate
  • Flickering light
  • Fog or mist
  • See a black cat
  • Hear an owl

Your group

  • Someone screams
  • Someone says "Did you hear that?"
  • Someone claims they saw something
  • Someone grabs your arm
  • Laugh at a jump scare

The places

  • Visit a cemetery
  • Tombstone from before 1900
  • Old church
  • Old jail or courthouse
  • Haunted hotel or inn

A sneaky workout, too

Ghost walks usually last an hour or more, and you're on your feet the whole time. Between the hills, the stairs and the dark alleys, it's easy to hit thousands of steps without noticing. There's even a square for it: Walk 5,000 steps.

Tips for your tour

Dress for the weather. Fall nights get cold fast. A cozy scarf is on the card for a reason.

Bring a flashlight. Some paths are darker than you'd expect.

Bring a friend who scares easily. Trust us, it makes the night.

Finish with something warm. Hot chocolate after the tour is the perfect last square.
